Spread Trading was invented in the 1970s in the UK in response to restrictions that had been imposed on the trading of certain financial instruments.  By trading a derivative of the underlying asset, traders were able to replicate the profit and loss that they would have had if they had been able to trade the underlying asset itself.

Today, Spread Trading has grown to become one of the key trading tools for an estimated one hundred thousand Spread Trading market professionals in the UK alone.
